Sue Ellis

- Children's Fantasy Book Author -

I live in the beautiful town of Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. Originally from Cheshire, I moved to Yorkshire and raised my daughter here. During lockdown through the pandemic, it seemed an ideal time to put my little goblin character down on paper and write my book.

Goby is a character I invented as far back as 1992 when my daughter was two years old. Money was tight and I could not afford books, so I created stories and Goby was born.
Having a background in sales, it helps you develop a creative and imaginative mind, this helped me to create the land of the goblins called the Three Realms. In this land live some peculiar creatures and some you will already know, like witches and warlocks.

My first book has taken me a year to produce and I have completed my manuscript for my second book.

I have produced three picture books about a little cornflower blue dragon, they are available on Kindle Books, plus I have written and illustrated a picture book for Martin House Children Hospice in North Yorkshire, called Shelter For A Butterfly, all proceeds go to the charity.
I enjoy writing, I find it therapeutic and it allows me to escape the every day stresses and strains of life.

Living in Hebden Bridge is inspiring and helps feed my imagination, it is a place of enchantment in itself and well worth a visit.

Having retired, this allows me time to spend writing and illustrating my children’s stories.
I hope you enjoy reading about my little goblin, Goby which is pronounced Toby, like the jug and I am more than happy to answer any questions you might have. Please subscribe to my newsletter and I will share my journey with you.

My goal is to encourage children to read more and put their mobile phones and tablets down, pick up a book and broaden their imagination. You never know, it might inspire them to write too.

Kindest wishes

The Dragon of Hebden Bridge

The Dragon of Hebden Bridge

A wonderful little story about a cornflower blue dragon that does not realise she has a special skill. The villagers of Hebden Bridge have taken the dragon into their hearts and honour her with a great feast and celebration every year.

Goby the Goblin

Goby the Goblin

It is a misconception that all goblins are bad, this simply isn't true. They are not all ugly, gnarled, nasty little creatures that only want to cause trouble and misery.

CREATING YOUR CHILD'S OWN STORY

Every child has a story inside them. My role is to gently help them find it. I offer one-to-one storytelling sessions for children aged 5-10, where your child is supported to create their own personalised story and illustrated picture book - from first idea to finished tale. Through a calm, encouraging approach, I guide your child to: * Explore their imagination * Develop a simple storyline * Create and draw their own characters and scenes. There is no pressure to perform, no expectations to write 'perfectly' and no right or wrong ideas. Each session moves at your child's pace, allowing their confidence and creativity to grow naturally. The result is a story that is entirely their own, supported with care and respect. What makes this service special? * One-to-one sessions focused entirely on your child. * A gentle, nurturing approach that build's confidence. * Emphasis on imagination, not ability level. * Children create both the story and the drawings. * Keepsake picture book your child can treasure. This service is especially suited for children who: * Love stories but don't know where to start. * Enjoy drawing more than writing. * Feel shy, unsure, or easily pressured. * Thrive with calm, individual attention. What happens in a session? Each session is relaxed and child led, but gently guided. I will: 1. Begin with conversation and imagination prompts. 2. Explore characters, feelings and ideas together. 3. Shape a simple storyline through discussion. 4. Encourage your child in telling their story in their own words. Your child is always encouraged to - but never pushed. What your child creates by the end of the process is: * An original story. * Their own hand-drawn illustrations. * A sense of pride in what they have created. Stories can be kept as a memory, shared with family, or turned into a printed keepsake book ( if you choose ). A gentle note for parents. This is not a lesson. It is not about spelling, grammar, or structure. It is about confidence, imagination, and helping your child feel that their ideas matter.
